Optare "Vecta"

In 1994 Trent went shopping to Optare in Leeds again despite the fact the 'Deltas' had just about fallen to pieces and one by one returned to Leeds for a good seeing to. The 'Vecta' was a midi bus based on a rather narrow MAN chassis. A full size version, the 'Sigma' was also available based on a Dennis lance chassis. A batch of 'Vectas' were ordered along with a pair of 'Sigmas' for evaluation.

The first five 'Vectas' were put to use on the "Spondon Flyer" - a route devised following the scandalous decision to pull off Derby - Melbourne - Swadlincote services while the rest of the batch headed off in the general direction of Buxton Depot.

802 is seen at Meadow Road on 18th October 1994 not too long after entering service.

By 16th November 1994 the rather uninspiring 'Spondon Flyer' livery had been applied to 801 - 804. On that date 804 is seen at Meadow Road.
