25 032 idles the evening of 7th September 1984 away at Shrewsbury (210kb).

25 049 gets a dead 45 019 and 10 coaches underway from Kettering on 12/3/83, the impression of a baby Sulzer hard at work is there! (260kb).

25 059 leads 50 007 along the Keighley & Worth valley railway 23rd July 2000 (240kb)

25 080 idling at Derby whilst in charge of three Travelling Post Office vehicles. These were later attached to the rear of a Westbound service. 6th December 1982. (125kb).

25 182. A sort clip of the loco being put through its paces on Derby Locomotive Works Test House on 29th March 1982. Quite an impressive thing to see and hear a 25 on full thrash but not moving at all! (140kb).

25283 in action on a preserved railway which will remain nameless as they don't like using it on passenger trains these days! (380kb).

25 285 and 25 286 blast away from Welshpool with a very late Aberstwyth - Shrewsbury service on 1st September 1984. (155kb)

27 014 not too long after being outshopped from BREL Derby leaves Cupar on 27th December 1985. (190kb).

27 054 at the other end of the health scale, but sounding excellent once underway leaves Inverkeithing on 17th September 1986 (525kb, 4 minutes 16 seconds worth!)

27 212 leads a push-pull Glasgow service out of Edinburgh with 27110 on the rear on 28/7/79 (140kb)

37 415 leaves Bangor on 16th January 2001, recorded from the station platform. (105kb)

37 418 departs from Llandudno Junction on a rainy 17th April 1996. Recorded before the locomotive went for an overhaul, reappearing in EWS livery. (220kb)

37 426 performs a full power standing start from Colwyn Bay during August 1998, one of the most spectacular recordings I've taken! (250kb)

45 001 displays the unique sound of the type's cooling fan as it leaves Rotherham on 23rd February 1983. (80kb).

45 051 departs from Derby with a relief train for York on 22nd October 1983. (235kb).

45 112 returned to the main line for the first time in around 13 years when it worked a Lancaster - Penzance charter. Here is the loco tackling Dainton Bank, just after Newton Abbot on the outward run. Click the speaker to listen or here to download (808kb)

46 023 restarts the Sundays only 1511 Leeds - Portsmouth from Derby on 5th December 1982. (155kb).

46 037 leaves Chesterfield with a Fridays only Birmingham - York service formed of Mark 1 open first coaches on 25th November 1983. (165kb).

46 044. Recorded in the engine room (from beside the steam heat generator!) leaves Burton-on-Trent. 30th March 1983. (355kb).

47 769 leaves Tamworth, fans screaming and towards the end of the recording the turbocharger can be heard 'chirping' or sneezing as we call it! 5/2/00 (255kb)

47 817 with 6 coaches and 47840 on the rear leaves Birmingham with a Portsmouth Harbour - Blackpool North working (!) on 5/2/00 (255kb)

47 829 complete with an excellent whine restarts from Chester during August 1998 (155kb)

81 003. The early ac electrics had a very distinct noise to them. Here is a short clip of 81 003 as it leaves Wolverhampton on 29th June 1985. You may just hear 47 472 in the background.(70kb).

85 025 gives the reason for the "Roarer" nickname as it leaves Wolverhampton on 23rd February 1983. (80kb).

1003 and 1005. The Southern Region's "Thumper" units have a sound which is quite outrageous and unique. During the rush hour the Hastings units would run in pairs. They had an English Electric 4 cylinder engine at either end, this recording was made from the middle of the formation as they leave High Brooms on 9th October 1985.(250kb)

1004 leaves Battle on 26th September 1984. (160kb)

1012 leaves Battle on 26th September 1984 recorded from the station platform. (105kb).

1112 or 205012 to give the unit's present identity at work on an Oxted - Uckfield service on December 30th 2000 (210kb)

1112 again leaves Cowden and climbs to the nearby tunnel on 30/12/00 (300kb)

1112 leaves Eridge, the sociable driver providing a wonderful example of a typical Southern unit horn!! (110kb)
