Engine Change!
One of the most major components to be reconditioned as part of a classified repair was the locomotive's diesel engine and the main and auxiliary generators. The views below show the whole unit being gently lowered into 45 013 during the locomotive's light repair.

Dinner time in 8 shop. A tinsmith clamps his latest masterpiece to the cab whilst the fitting chargehand drifts past the camera. High above 45013 the Sulzer 12LDA28-B engine complete with Crompton Parkinson main and auxiliary generator is lined up prior to lowering into the engine room where two fitters were waiting to guide the 35 ton load into place.

Nearly there!

Once in place the engine is rather dwarfed by the sheer length of the locomotive. This view was taken from the cab of the crane used to lower the engine into the locomotive. The header tank is already in situ at the top right. The turbocharger can be clearly seen. An interesting comparison in engine size is provided by the Paxman 12RP200L engine visible between the High Speed Train power cars at the top of the picture. At the bottom right is the electrical control cubicle for Class 25 No. 25034. Note also that the inside of the locomotive has been repainted.
