Chomutov depot still take great pride in their small (and mostly loud) fleet of 749s. Their main diagrams involve the section of line between Kadan and Karlovy Vary on which electrification has now been started.

This stunning view by D Craik shows 749-081 and 749-102 at Kadan at around 07:21 on 31st January 2004  having just replaced an electric locomotive on the "Excelsior" which started out from Kosice at 16:20 the previous day. During winter this service is booked a pair of 749s as one locomotive providing train heat as well as hauling this heavy train over the steeply graded route is not deemed adequate. Indeed after alighting from the train at Ostrov the duo could be heard in the hills for some SIX minutes after departure!!

Here is 749-039 at Kadan complete with a Chomutov board in the window along with an assortment of dolls (!)

The well kept 749-102 is seen at Kadan on 30th January 2004 having just replaced 163-092
