A look at the dates in the cab reveal how long the loco has been preserved and indeed its last main works overhaul. The loco spent some years operating at the Mid Hants railway notably working regularly along the Alton to Medstead section during 1987 when heavy steam engines were not allowed along this section of track. Even then the staff there simply could not (would not?) grasp why anyone had the nerve to turn up just to ride on "The diesel"

I must record my thanks to all the staff such was the genuine welcome it felt like they had known me for years, the sort of thing that makes a return visit an absolute must.
