40 Years of Classes 25 & 27 Locomotives.

This section into traffic on 21st June 2001

British Railways introduced their Class 25 locomotives in 1961. A total of 327 examples entered traffic during the following six years.

Equipped with a Sulzer 6LDA28B power unit the type joined the already established family of Sulzer Type 2 locomotives in the form of Classes 24, 26 and 27. The 27s were also introduced in 1961; along with the 26s they were constructed by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company.

The aim of this section of the site is to record Sulzer Type 2 activity during 2001 as a form of commemoration of the 40th Birthday of the 25s and 27s.
